Hello!
Hi, I’m Jen Silverman, an independent math consultant, specializing in high school and middle school mathematics curricula. I taught students in grades 6-12 in public and independent schools in central Connecticut for 14 years. My experience helping to pilot (i.e. write) the State of Connecticut’s “Algebra 1 For All” curriculum, led to a position with one of the six Regional Education Support Centers in CT, where I helped to develop full-year, problem-based courses in Algebra1 and Geometry for the interdistrict program, Skills21. I am also the inventor of ProRadian Protractors.
An experienced speaker (NCTM, GGBNA13, ATMNE, ATOMIC, CTEEA…), I have presented on topics relevant to the CCSM including curricular and pedagogical changes. I am an experienced GeoGebra user (see my profile on geogebra.org) and a Desmos aficionado; for the few years it was around, I was a regular contributor to Daily Desmos. I am a strong proponent of blending appropriate technological learning tools into a student-centered math program. I developed most of the digital activities (called applets) for Illustrative Mathematics (IM) 6-8 Math and IM’s Alg1-Geom-Alg2 curricula, using Desmos and GeoGebra. I maintain the applets for IM on an as-needed basis and am available to any provider of the IM curricula.
I enjoy engaging in great Twitter conversations with math educators from around the world who gather at the hashtag, #MTBoS (Math Twitter Blog-o-Sphere). Lately, the topics center around distance learning, equitable access to high quality curriculum and instruction, and social justice. Helping to keep a free, top-rated, student-centered math curriculum available to every student is my goal. I would be very happy to help you do the same.
